Chicago Cubs Stadium

On January 25th the City of Mesa opened the newly constructed Chicago Cubs Spring Training Stadium.  In honor of the occasion the city held an open house for the entire public to come and see the stadium, along with a new play park with water park for kids.  This happened to be a weekend when my Dad was in town, so we had my brother Tyler and his wife AmiCheri come over from Glendale with their son Benson so we could all go together.

While waiting for Tyler and his family to come over from Glendale we spent some time outside enjoying the weather while Papi (my dad) pushed Gabriel in his swing. Once they arrived we headed on over to this new park.

Now, I am not a baseball fan at all, which is really ironic considering all the years I played it as a child.  Still, going to see this big stadium was a lot of fun.  They had all sorts of vendors and child activities (jumping castles, ziplines, trampolines, etc).  They had the City of Mesa showing an architectural drawing and what was to become of the extra acres of grass next to the stadium (a hotel with swimming pool and accessories). Inside the actual baseball stadium they had live music and more vendors, though this time they were for the adults.

We packed up Benson and Gabriel in their strollers and took them around to see the sights.

Papi was their personal chauffer for seeing the sights

We actually did not go where they have the park itself because it was jam packed.  I figured that since we live so close by (it is only about 3 miles from our place) that we could easily go another day and see the splash pad and big jungle gyms for adults and kids.  But we did get to see everything else.  Plus the weather was gorgeous.  We finished off our grand escapade with dinner at Café Rio, per Tyler and AmiCheri's request.  All in all, a fun filled Saturday.
