Our house has become babyfied.... everywhere we look it just screams "we have kids!"... Man have the times changed from when we didn't have any... and our stuff is showing the wear and tear from it too... good thing we didn't buy any of it new and didn't plan on it lasting for forever or being nice for long. Even the cats helped to break things in before the kids came around. Someday, perhaps, we will get nicer new stuff... but perhaps not even then because once the kids are gone, then come the grandkids. Good thing I remember that it is just stuff and that it doesn't really matter in the eternal scheme of things. What matters eternally is our family.
These precious babies are a gift that Heavenly Father has allowed for me to experience. Someone told me once that: "Heavenly Father allowed for you to have children because He knew that you would be far happier with them than you could ever be without them." Deep words... No, not every moment is one of joy and gratitude for being a mother. But in the quiet, calm peaceful moments, or the times filled with squeals of delight followed by deep belly rooted laughter, those are the moments that I feel to glimpse a piece of heaven. I recognize right then that this is why it is all worth it. These are the joys of motherhood that need to outweigh the demands, stresses and exhaustion that comes with fulfilling this role.
Whoever said that being a stay-at-home mom was easy and wasn't really "work" has obviously never tried it. Reminds me of that country song: "Being Mr. Mom"... I just love it! Moms do soo much on a daily basis that get taken for granted all the time. If only we could get paid for all the different job roles we fulfill: cook, day care, nurse, psychologist, therapist, home cleaner, laundress, seamstress, etc... the list goes on and on. When we got Eric his life insurance the guy he was talking to on the phone asked if we were considering getting some for me. He then went on to say that if I (stay-at-home mommy) were to get paid for all the work that I do it would equate to easily over $100,000 yearly salary. Wow!! That really put things into perspective for me. Staying at home raising children really is one of the most important "jobs" that a woman can do on this earth.
Don't get me wrong, I totally still have my worldly ambitions that I hope to accomplish one day. I would love to go back to school and get graduate education... in something (probably human body related). I would love to have some kind of lucrative career where I can find great fulfillment every day. But not right now. Right now I get to spend almost every second of every day taking care of 2 adorable babies. Funny how life turns out.
So yes, I am a stay-at-home mom and our house has been extremely transformed with baby stuff. Everywhere I look I see evidence of our kids' existences. And now that Gabriel is mobile, he gets into everything (as a baby should). We have been slowly baby proofing our house with outlet covers, cabinet door locks, magnetic locks and a child fence. We even put in carpet padding this week so that when he falls off the couch he won't hit his head as hard. I can only imagine what more trouble he will get into once he can walk... eek! Thankfully that day has not arrived just yet. Here are some pictures to give you a glimpse of what I see everyday. Welcome to my world :D
